What A Trip!!

IMG_1254.JPG

Can not say enough about how great my recent trip to Canada was!  Pete, Mizzy, and myself headed to Canada to fish with a good friend of mine, Jeff "Gussy" Gustafson recently and were able to take advantage of there great ice fishing.  I want to give a big shout out to Gussy for all his hospitality and efforts.  We could not have made this trip a success with out him.  Thanks kid!

This picture was from the last morning we were there.  Mizzy had a very strong finish on this given Sunday.  He caught three great Lake Trout while the rest of us went skunked.  Good work Mizzy!  We will definitely be going back and doing this again.

This is a picture of Gussy with one of Mizzy's three great fish he caught.  I still can not believe he caught three fish in about an hour.  Nice work Mizz, I don't care what Pete says about you, you are alright in my book....and a hell of a stick.

Catching Donkey's!

IMG_122.JPG

The weather finally broke today and it got above zero.  The temps actually made it to 25!  This gave us a chance to get back to pursuing giant Lake Trout.  Today had a few highlights. First, was that Mizzy was able to get back to catching.  He caught a lake trout the first day but yesterday he struggled a bit.  Today he redeemed himself with a great Lake Trout.

This was the great laker that I was able to land today!  These fish are all muscle and make runs that are second to none.  Lake Trout never give up.  If you have never had a chance to experience this I would highly recommend it.

Gussy, the guide, displaying Pete's Lake Trout.  There is a great story behind this fish.  Pete was using a 24" Jason Mitchell panfish rod with 4pd test.  I had given him this rod to try and coax a few 1 pound cisco's into eating, when he got a tug on the end of his line.  On the other end was this giant lake trout.

He did battle with this fish for an honest 30 minutes.  It was an amazing marathon battle...on 4 POUND TEST.  I have to say Pete did a great job of fighting this fish.  I don't know that I will ever be able to wipe the smile of his face.  Congrats to Pete.

Yes if you are not careful it will eat you!!

This was the first lake trout of the day and as you see it was caught by Pete.  These fish are unbelievable.  They are all so huge.  I am not sure that I will ever come home!  We will be back at it tomorrow morning.  I will report back soon, until then Fish On!

Crackn Walleyes!!!

IMG_1168.JPG

This was one of last nights better walleyes.  As you can see it fell victim to a northland buck shot spoon....My go to bait.  Moments after I caught this fish I hooked into a "fatty" walleye that broke me off after a battle. Needless to say I had a few words for that fish.

Yesterday we were joined by my good friend Jeff "Gussy" Gustafson .  He was at seminars all day on Thursday so he wasn't able to par-take in the catching.  Jeff and I met 4 years ago at the Fort Frances Canadian Championship.  Ever since then he has been asking me to come up and fish with him, as you can see I finally made the adventure.  I am so glad that I finally committed to this trip.  Pete, Mizzy, and myself have all had the ice fishing trip of our lives.  Jeff brought his professional camera along and got some great pictures, as you can see.

Fatty Walleyes!

fattywalleye.JPG

This was how we finished the evening last night.  We were in search of some eater walleyes for supper.  In the process I was able to catch a few bigger fish that we threw back.  Pete, Mizzy, and myself all caught a few eaters and ate great last night.

I caught both of these walleyes jigging a northland buckshot spoon with a minnow head on it.  I could not have asked for a better way to end the evening.  First a giant lake trout, then a smallmouth, and then these great walleyes.  We were able to catch some more great fish today.  I will be posting pictures soon.....stay tuned.  I am happy to say I traded in the sound of my office and phone ringing for something I like to hear much better...."Fish On!!"
