Catching Donkey's!

IMG_122.JPG

The weather finally broke today and it got above zero.  The temps actually made it to 25!  This gave us a chance to get back to pursuing giant Lake Trout.  Today had a few highlights. First, was that Mizzy was able to get back to catching.  He caught a lake trout the first day but yesterday he struggled a bit.  Today he redeemed himself with a great Lake Trout.

This was the great laker that I was able to land today!  These fish are all muscle and make runs that are second to none.  Lake Trout never give up.  If you have never had a chance to experience this I would highly recommend it.

Gussy, the guide, displaying Pete's Lake Trout.  There is a great story behind this fish.  Pete was using a 24" Jason Mitchell panfish rod with 4pd test.  I had given him this rod to try and coax a few 1 pound cisco's into eating, when he got a tug on the end of his line.  On the other end was this giant lake trout.

He did battle with this fish for an honest 30 minutes.  It was an amazing marathon battle...on 4 POUND TEST.  I have to say Pete did a great job of fighting this fish.  I don't know that I will ever be able to wipe the smile of his face.  Congrats to Pete.

This was the first lake trout of the day and as you see it was caught by Pete.  These fish are unbelievable.  They are all so huge.  I am not sure that I will ever come home!  We will be back at it tomorrow morning.  I will report back soon, until then Fish On!
