Bull Gills!

Rochpanfish116.JPG

Now that Walleye/Pike season has closed we all switch gears in search of bluegills a.k.a. Bull Gills!  It is the time of year when we don't have to have a 20 foot heated shelter to bear the elements.  30 degrees actually feels warm, and allows us to fish outside.  When the snow begins to melt and you spend all afternoon hole hopping in search of fish like the ones Matt and Mike caught.

These pics were sent to me from good friend and fishing partner Matt Rauenhorst.  As you can see, Matt and Mike had a very successful day on Saturday.

As for me...well I didn't fair as well on Saturday in my search for bull gills.  Mayo, Ringus, Cooley,  and myself went out on a small lake by Waconia and came up empty.  Fishing is all about timing.  When the fish are going to bite, when you are going fishing, and when you decide to move from an area in search of a better area?!  We fished the afternoon, and came to find out that the fish bite very well at dark and after.  Unfortunately for us we couldn't stay out that late so we had to quit before it got good.  I will be back at it again later this week.

It's A Tough Job But Somebody Has To Do It!!

IMG_05522.JPG

As you can see I am hard at it at the Bassmaster Classic!  It was a very busy day today, but we were able to make time for a pic with a few of the Hooters girls.    Our booth is in a great location and we had a ton of traffic today.  I can not imagine how crazy it is going to be tomorrow and Sunday.

Charlie Hartley leads after day one with the likes of Scott Rook, KVD, Scroggins, and other big names looming.  Watch for guys like Iac and Casey Ashley to bring in nice bags again tomorrow.   There are only about 15 guys in striking distance.  A few of these guys are on the right fish, and watch for them to move up tomorrow when other guys falter.  It was nasty on the water today.  40, windy, and rainy is far from ideal when you are trying to fish on open water for $500,000.  Back at it tomorrow and will update with more info tomorrow night.

Bassmaster Classic

I am in Greenville South Carolina through Monday for the Bassmaster Classic.  I will put pics and updates from the tournament up every day.  It was cold and windy today, temp was about 45 and the wind blew 15-25 with scattered rain.  Made for a miserable day on the water.  I would have rather been ice fishing where I could go inside a shelter.  Tomorrow the worlds 50 best bass anglers will go out in search of a $500,000 first place prize over three days of fishing.  Just so it is in writing, my dark horse pick to win is a MN native Derek Remitz.  KVD, Skeet Reese, Aaron Martens, will all be in the top 10.  One of those three guys should win this tournament.

Jason Mitchell Rods

I have to give a shout out to Jason Mitchell for making a fantastic ice fishing rod.  On our recent ice fishing adventure Pete was able to land a 18pd lake trout on a 24" Jason Mitchell Panfish rod.  The reel was spooled with 4 pound test.  He was using the light rod to fish for Cisco's when the fish hit.  The rod did a great job, and so did Pete.  At any time he could have broke this giant fish off, but with his patience and the strength of the rod it held up to a 30 minute battle.  Below is a picture of Pete and his great fish.
