Work'n on it!?
Thanks to thanksgiving break I was able to take my 2 nephews; Benjamin, Dominick, out this morning on Lanier and we were able to find some good action. We caught spots in various sizes on 2 baits. The first bait was a jigging spoon, and the second bait of choice was a drop shot about 3 feet off the bottom. The fish were schooling on pods of bait and on a feeding frenzy. Mixed in among the spots were a few stripers but we were not able to get any of them hooked up.
We were fishing both presentations vertical in about 38-48 feet of water and the spots were just crushing it. The jigging spoon we were using was white and shinny. In order for them to hit it, we had to rip jig it and on the fall they would wack it. The drop shot had about a 3 foot leader on it and we were using a gamakatsu 2/0 g-lock worm hook! The ultimate drop shot hook. Then again it is named after a fantastic pistol.....must be good. We tipped the hook with a 6 inch hand poured worm.
Hard work and lots of time on the water is starting to pay off with some success. Hopefully I can continue to hone in on what these fish are doing......they better look out! :) Until next time, Fish On!
