Just My Luck

After endless hours in a tree behind the camera filming close friends Andrew Ward and Peter Dunlap both shooting WI magnums it was finally my turn to take the Mathews Z7 Extreme into the woods. I got to sit the last evening in WI before we called it a wrap. I but out a doe decoy hoping to coax one of the many nice bucks searching for does in heat to come check her out. Unfortunately for me I had two different bucks come in on this evening, but both were to small to shoot. I let them both walk to hopefully grow up and become magnums themselves. This is a short video from one of our camera angles of the first small buck walking right underneath us. I am hoping to send a Grim Reaper Broadhead out of the Mathews this week into a MN giant! I got my eye on the prize. Stay tuned for more in the coming days. The rut is on and things are getting good.

Ghosts Of The Woods

We have been busy chasing whitetails with our Mathews Z7 Extreme's in many locations and states.  Team "dirt nap" spent this last week in Central WI trying to take down one or two of these elusive WI magnums.  As you can see we were succesful!  We managed to harvest to nice mature deer on camera.  The top deer green scored at 145 3/4" and the bottom deer scored 135 3/8".  

I was behind the camera lens when Pete harvested the magnum in the top picture.  Needless to say I think I was shaking worse than him. This was the 7th or 8th buck we had seen running does around the corn field we were set-up on the edge of.   We had chances to harvest 5 different bucks on this afternoon, but none of them got Pete excited like this one.  This is Pete's best buck to date.  We let 2 different bucks with over 20" spread's walk.  That way next year we will have a couple super magnums and plenty of good shooters.   

This 10 pointer was another nice buck we took on film on Wed morning.  This deer was shot on film by my close friend Andrew Ward at 20 yards with the Mathews/Grim Reaper combo!  The deer ran about 60 yards and was piled up in the woods.  This was Ward's second ever deer with a bow and also his biggest buck to date.  Andrew had harvested his first ever deer(a doe) 10 minutes before this buck walked in and presented him a shot at 20 yards.  The Mathews showed no sympathy.  Congrats to both members of the crew for great shots on great deer.  I will be back in a tree filming this afternoon and then we are headed to the great state of MN to get after a few before the rut is over.  Until next time, Keep Livin the Dream!  

The Other Season!

As you can see the Primos Truth Cam has been catching a few fall visitors on camera.  These deer are a few that are on this year's hitlist.  We are hoping and expecting to see them in the coming days.  Hopefully the next time you see them, they are in front of the Sony AX2000 taking an arrow from the Mathews Z7 Extreme Tactical!  

Muskie Hunter!

Spent a morning on Lake Minnetonka guiding for muskies and was able to get Dave on this dandy 47" toothy critter.  More info to follow.  Fish On!

Been meaning to write a short follow up to the recent muskie action.  Finally I was able to slow down enough to put up some info for all those that are curious as to what the muskies are doing.  Since the first week of Oct was all in the 80's even reaching 90 a few times the water actually warmed up a bit.  The fish were a bit confused and the turn over was slowed drastically.  That has all changed in most of Lake Waconia and Lake Minnetonka.  The water has started to cool again and the lakes are pretty clear right now.  Some areas have a little stain in them yet from a September algae bloom.  

That brings me to right now!  We are still catching a few fish shallow that made a move back up after the warm weather.  Most of the fish we are seeing are not up in the 2-4 foot sand or rocks like so many of us like to fish.  The fish seem to have pulled back to the 4-6 foot inside weed edges where the grass is still a little green(not dead).  If you can run a bait over the tops of weeds that are alive and not far from the edge you will see a fewmuskies lurking.  Still throwing a lot of big inline spinners but reeling them fast enough to keep them over the tops of the shallow weeds.  I have not spent much time on the outside weed edge.  The weather looks like it is going to be pretty stable in the coming days and fairly nice....which means I will be back out in search of a few more toothy critters.  

In the mean time I am spending every living moment in a tree stand chasing dandy whitetails with my Mathews Z7 Extreme Tactical!
