Mille Lacs Crush...earning the "W"
Last Saturday, Aug. 1st, Chris Luedtke and I went to Mille Lacs for Mark Schutz's bass tourney. We showed up with high hopes after my recent success on the big pond. This is a picture from the post tournament fishing outing on Sunday. As you see in the back ground the lake had finally laid down.
We woke up Saturday morning to horrible conditions. It was 47 degrees and blowing 20 plus out of the Northwest. The waves were pushing 5-6 feet tall. It was tough but well worth it. We ventured to a small bay that was lightly protected but still was nasty and proceeded to execute the crush. Once I put the first largemouth in the boat it was on! Chris and I took turns all day landing nice largemouth. Late in the day I made a decision to try to upgrade with a few big smallmouth and caught a dandy on my first cast. We went on to land a great limit that included 4 largemouth and one smallmouth. When it was all said and done we got the win. It felt good because we had worked our butts off in far from ideal conditions.
On Sunday the wind laid down so Chris and I joined Mark for some action on the big pond. We were able to catch many smallmouth but the cold still had the fish in a bit of a funk. This was one of our better fish...Sorry Chris is hiding behind it.
This is one of Marks big fish for the day...no wonder he couldn't win the tourney. Maybe he didn't understand that it was the biggest five bass to win!? :)
Another one of Marks "giants"! Good to see the lake has some young fish; it is a healthy fishery.
I want to say "thank you!" to Mark and Nacole Schutz from Full Throttle Outdoors/Ranger Boats for all that they did to make this event a success. You guys are the best. Hopefully I will be invited to the second annual.
