Fall Is Brown

With fall in full swing it is a great time of year to get out and chase many species. Smallmouth are usually at the top of my hitlist. This recent nice weather gave me a chance to get on the water and smack the slob bronzebacks! We fished Lake Mille Lacs and it proved to be full of brown fish wanting to eat my offering.

The bait if choice was a Strike King 3xd crankbait that was in some sort of crawdad color. We finished the day with over 50 fish 3 lbs or better.

We also managed to catch some dandy walleyes throwing cranks. The biggest walleye was in the 29" range. Between chasing giant fish, whitetails, and waterfowl it is a busy time of year- my favorite month of the whole year!

Fisherman's Dream

After Doug was able to strike yesterday morning, so did Shawn. These fellas were both able to catch their first muskie. Not to down play Doug's fantastic looking 42" fish but this magnificent 53" fish landed by Shawn was a beauty! Shawn was so excited to catch his first muskie and for it to be a fish of this magnitude was extra sweet.
Until next time, Fish On!

Not Enough Time

As we begin to exit summer and welcome in fall, many things are happening in the fishing and outdoor world. As so many of you know this is my favorite time of year but also much too short. How is one supposed to fit in all the great activites that are upon us in the coming weeks!
First, it is the best time of year to be chasing the toothy critters as well as just about every other species that swims here in MN. Next, we are well under way with the early goose season here in MN. Last but not least, it is time to fine tune the Mathews Heli'm for the start of the "other season"-bow hunting!! Whitetail hunting in the upper midwest is second to none and I have been ultra busy preparing for that....between fishing outings. Before we know it our duck season will be in full swing and then we will be digging out the ice augers to make sure they run! Yes, I am starting to take bookings for ice outings with the all new Clam ice houses. It will be upon us before we know it.

Here is a short clip of Peter shooting his new Mathews Helim combo'd with a KTECH Designs stabilizer and Schaffers Opposition arrow rest. These set-ups are unbeliveable. With in the first 40 arrows we were dialed in out to 50 and 60 yards! Today's bow and equipment technology makes shooting accuratly to 50+ yards a reality! We typically still will not take a shot in the woods past 40 to reduce the risk of hitting a small twig and causing the arrow to wound a great whitetail.
