Still on!

ice07.JPG

I have to say, "thanks!" to Nig for waking me up last night when he heard the rattle reel.  On the end of that rattle reel was this 27 1/2" Lake Minnetonka "super fatty" walleye.  As Pete would say, "It's a heavy lifter!".  It is the largest walleye I have caught this winter!  It was a great fight and I put her back to swim and fight another day.

Had a great day yesterday on Lake Minntonka with Nig, Pete, Tina, Eddie, Scott, Todd, Morgan, and Katie.  We started the day pike fishing and finished with some strong walleye fishing.  Eddie was able to catch one nice northern pike, and I lost one.  Pete and Tina arrived with food and beverages for the day and we made a great afternoon out of watching football and fishing.  As the sun went down we switched over to walleye fishing and the bite was on.

We were able to catch 8 walleyes.  This was one of two 20" fish we ice'd at sun down.  This fish fell victim to a Northland buckshot spoon tipped with a minnow head.  Nig and I stayed over night and caught some more great walleyes on the rattle reels with shiners.

This was Nig's second walleye of the night and measured 20".

Thanks to everyone that took part in yesterday's adventure.  It was a great day and a lot of fun.  Look forward to many more soon.  Until then, Fish On!  More pics and stories coming very soon.......

It's on!

The bite is on!  This is one of 9 walleyes that we were able to catch on Lake Minnetonka.

Tony was in town from Chicago for Christmas to visit relatives and was able to get in a fish house for two nights.  Both nights were productive.  Tony lived in Minnetonka and fished Lake Minnetonka for years before he moved to Chicago.  It was great to see the smile on his face when he pulled his first walleye of the year through the ice.  This fish came on a shiner in the middle of the night and measured 23 1/2".   There are more pictures and reports to come very soon!

Merry Christmas!

PC240156.JPG

My site is long due for an update...so here they come.  I have been on the ice everyday and have not had time to get on the computer.  So today I came off the lake and am taking a little time to update you all on what has been happening.

I snuck out on Christmas Eve with my brother Eddie on Lake Waconia and was able to catch one nice walleye in the middle of the night.  The fish took a set line with a golden shiner about a foot off the bottom.  We did have a few other bites but were not able to capitalize.
First thing in the morning on Christmas day I made walleye for my brother Eddie and sister Teresa.  Made for a great Christmas morning.

Prrrrrrr!!

On Saturday I got to enjoy a great adventure.  Nig, Mike, Bails, Matt, Scott, Chad, Billings, and myself headed out on the ice in search of catfish and any other species that would bite our jigs.  As you can see we had some great action.  We fished from about 10-2 and caught in the neighborhood of 30-40 cats, 2 walleyes,  one northern, and a few crappies.   It was a great time.  If you have never had a chance to catch a catfish through the ice you are really missing out.   They put up a great fight and can really be a blast to pull through the hole.  The biggest fish on this trip was about 10 pounds.  I want to say thanks to all the guys that went on this trip for their efforts and energy.  Lets do it again soon fellas!

This is a funny picture of Mike I just had to put up!

These guys ended up fishing in a mess of standing water!  The weight of the snow was causing some water to come up on top of the ice.

These fish hit jigging spoons and really put up a good fight.  You can see they are very healthy fish (fat).
